Nov 20-27 ACEOs

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope you had a wonderful time with friends and family. We sure did - I feel so thankful for the wonderful people in my life! One of these wonderful people is my sweet husband who makes sure that I get some time every day to paint.
Without much further ado, here are the latest ACEOs:
Nov 20 ACEO: In my Daddy's strong arms
(Prints of this one are now available in my Etsy shop)

Nov 21 ACEO - In my Dad's strong arms
(Prints are available by request)

Nov 22 ACEO - Little Superhero (thank you Shannon, for the idea!)

Nov 23 ACEO - Little Superhero can fly!

Nov 24 ACEO - Woman in Profile

Nov 25 ACEO - Sweet dreams (prints of this one are now available in my Etsy shop)

Nov 26 ACEO - She's a Superhero, she can Fly!

Nov 27 ACEO - She's a Hero!

My Everyday Art Project is one month from being complete. I hope to finish strong! This has been an amazing experience... I've mentioned before that I will be painting at least one 5x7 or larger painting every 2 weeks next year. Giving myself 2 weeks per painting (rather than 1 every day in addition to custom orders!) will give me the chance to paint larger, more detailed paintings. I will probably re-visit a few of the favorite paintings from the Everyday Art Project, and re-paint them larger, in more detail.

I hope you will join me for yet another year of art!

Custom 5x7 art - I love Ethiopia

Here is the 5x7 painting of Africa I painted for a client's daughter's nursery. The colors match her bedding.

Map paintings are a fun and affordable way to add some original art flair to a room - let me know if you'd like me to paint you one, too!

Custom Art - 8x10 "Girly Girl"

You may have already seen the other custom painting I did of little E - riding on a carnival horsey in a fancy dress. Her mother also asked me to paint a picture of her in this outfit, in front of the Japanese Cyprus in Monterey.
Little E is shyly puckering her little mouth, I wonder what she is thinking about. I added the purse to make sense of her arm posture (in the photo her Mom gave me she is holding onto a railing). I love painting little kids, among other things because I think their body proportions are just too darn cute!

Here is a more detailed view of little E in her Girly Girl shirt.

Nov 8-10 ACEOs - children in Tanzania

My sister lives in Tanzania, and I just received a letter from her. These next three paintings were partly inspired by some of her descriptions.

Nov 8 ACEO - blue scarf

Nov 9 ACEO - blue dress

Nov 10 ACEO - blue beads

These last 13 paintings were painted on hot press watercolor paper, which I have to admit, I really don't particularly like painting on. It is GREAT for drawing on (since it doesn't have the rough texture of cold press that a black ink pen sometimes gets stuck in), but while painting the color pigments kept floating away because this kind of paper just plain is not absorbent. It is HARD to get a smooth finish without too many unwanted water-edges on this kind of paper. I really shouldn't complain, since this paper was free... but I'm happy to return to my usual cold press watercolor paper!

Speaking of watercolor paper, my all-time favorite is Arches cold press. It is worth the price... the resulting colors are more vivid than on any other paper I have painted on, and it is WONDERFULLY absorbent. I paint all my custom orders on Arches 140lb 100% cotton.
For the Everyday Art project, I am trying to use the stacks and stacks of watercolor paper I inherited from my grandpa when he and my grandma moved out of their big house into a condo. It is kind of fun to paint on paper that is 20-60 years old! This does, however, require me to be flexible because the texture, quality, and absorbency varies very widely.

Sister and Brother, 8x10 custom illustration

I am working really hard to finish all my custom art orders before the end of November so that I will have time to make Christmas presents for my friends and family.

Here is the newest 8x10 custom piece that I just finished for a client who asked me to paint her adorable children. She sent me several pictures of each of her children, (sitting, climbing, crawling, walking) and asked me to paint them together holding hands. I decided to make them dance together, too, and had fun inventing their little outfits.

Little Mary Poppins - 8x10 custom painting

I really love painting custom nursery art, and so I was thrilled when my friend asked me to paint her daughter. She sent me a picture of her daughter riding a carousel horse, and the sassy attitude with which she looked right into the camera, perfectly perched on top of her horsey, stood out to me instantly. I decided to mix things up a little, and painted her into Mary Poppins' dress and painted a chalk landscape in the background for little E to ride through.

I had fun with the bright, girly colors.

Here is a more detailed look at little E.
