Jan 29 ACEO: I wasn't feeling particularly creative or artistic... but I figure, you can't go wrong with a family of elephants!

Ben says this looks like a little zombie eating brains... any Mom recognizes that this is a perfectly normal toddler feeding himself spaghetti with meat balls!

Jan 21 & Jan 22 ACEOs

I really, really love art nouveau stained glass windows. Over the course of the next year I am sure I will end up painting quite a few. I'm using the flowers from my own garden as inspiration.

Jan. 14, 15, 16, 17 ACEOs

Jan 14 ACEO: Ben used to have a Veiled Chameleon named 'Jill' many years ago.

Jan 15 ACEO: Veiled Chameleons are such fun pets, and the spectrum of colors and designs they can change their skin into amazed us to no end.

Jan 16 ACEO: Veiled Chameleon - as they mature, their "horn" (or veil) on top grows too, and they keep adding new pigments to their skin.

Jan 17 ACEO: A male Veiled Chameleon that is feeling aggressive puffs himself up and displays BRIGHT colors. Would you mess with this guy?!

Many people don't know that a chameleon's colors are not so much about blending in (although they are good at that, too), but often about their mood, the temperature, and many other factors.

Mark wanted to play with my Russian nesting dolls, and that gave me the idea to paint a set of my own version of the matryoshka.

I love kitties. I could easily become the old lady with too many cats. I try to limit myself to 1, 2, or 3 at a time...
Jan 9 ACEO. Sorry, kitty, didn't mean to interrupt you...

Jan 7 and 8 ACEOs

I worked ahead because the next few days will be busy.

Jan 7 ACEO: I always loved the Jugendstil/ Art Nouveau stained glass windows in Frankfurt. Here is my own attempt at a little bit of that style. I made the designs up myself, based on the "whiplash" curves and style of the time, I think I'll have to practice a little more.

Jan 8 ACEO: Another Jugendstil/ Art Nouveau tulip window. I like the way this one turned out better. The 'whiplash' lines are looking much whiplashier... and yes, I am making up words. :o)

On a side note, while these don't look as complicated as some of the other paintings, they required a VERY steady hand to make all those thin, parallel lines of the lead...

Jan 6 ACEO

I really love these tiny chickadees. A bunch of them come to my bird feeder in the back yard.

Today I felt pretty tired and not very creative, but yesterday Mark had fun playing with Holden's little R2D2... so here you go.

Jan. 3 ACEO Germany we used to light fireworks and sparklers for New Years... fond memories...

A few of my readers have asked me what an ACEO is.
ACEO stands for "Art Cards Editions and Originals." These little 2.5"x3.5" gems are highly collectible pieces of art, and can be made in any variety of materials (watercolor, oil, ink, acrylics, pencil, collage, even fabric). They can be traded and collected, or sold for pennies all the way up to thousands of dollars.

A Few Custom Art Pieces from 2010

Jan. 2 ACEO

Ben, Mark, Sean, Lincoln (the dog) and I all participated in the RL5K run/walk this morning. We did all 5km without stopping to rest... I carried Sean in his sling, so I was more exhausted than Mark was afterwards...

1st day of the 'Everyday Art'-Project

This year I am starting my own 'Everyday Art' Project, with the goal of painting or drawing at least one ACEO (2.5" x 3.5") every day!

We had fun celebrating the new year with friends... the kids were WIDE awake though, when we got home!
